Four Ways a Dental Hygienist Can Use Lasers

Lasers in Dental Hygiene The word laser is an acronym for the expression “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.”  In dental hygiene, we use the laser to help reduce the amount of bacteria in the mouth. The four most common procedures used by a Dental Hygienist are Laser Bacterial Reduction (LBR), Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy (LAPT), the treatment of aphthous ulcers and to desensitize teeth. “The laser can be a great tool to aid in keeping your periodontal maintenance patients in remission, it can reduce the bacteria that causes gingivitis and it can keep your prophy patients in a healthy state and reduce their sensitivity. If your state practice act allows you to use a laser, I highly recommend incorporating it into your practice. Your patients will love the results!” -Leah
